Our online classes will be offered through a partnership with Florida Virtual.  Through this partnership, students will have access to online instruction and support from Jefferson Middle School staff.  

We value strong, two-way communication with parents and guardians regarding academic progress. We have several ways in which we can communicate with each other throughout the school year:

• Monitoring online grade reporting
• Reviewing progress reports and report cards 
• Having conversations about academic progress throughout the year and at conferences
• Contacting teacher through email or by phone

Being successful in the virtual setting requires students to adhere to the guidelines of the program, and to continue to show improvement and progress toward passing their assigned virtual courses.  Being successful in the virtual setting requires students to attend classes regularly, complete and submit assignments in a timely manner, and meet with their JMS support staff at assigned times. Being successful in a virtual  setting requires responsibility, independent work, self-discipline, organization, and initiative.  It is not for everyone, and a student who is unwilling to follow through risks their enrollment in this program.

The application will be reviewed by an administrator and/or counselor for consideration and an initial meeting will be scheduled.

Students will be enrolled in  7 Daily Classes (same as in-person)

1. Language Arts
2. Social Studies
3. Science
4. Math
5. PE
6. Health (one semester) / Elective (one semester)
7. Elective or LRC class (Students in an LRC class will meet at a specified time daily with their LRC teacher)  

Students will have a daily check in with their online teacher at JMS.  The teacher will take attendance, provide opportunities for clarification, and communicate with students about individual progress in courses.

Each student’s IEP team determines the most appropriate placement. If an IEP team determines that the alternative program is the least restrictive placement, that student is welcomed to attend.

Grading Scale

JMS Virtual is a program and part of Jefferson Middle School.  Students who meet eligibility requirements as stated in the Jefferson Student/Parent Handbook can participate in athletics and other extracurricular school activities.

JMS Virtual is a program and part of Jefferson Middle School.  Unless specifically stated in this JHS Virtual Handbook, students  are expected to follow the Jefferson Middle School Handbook and are held to those standards.

Students who are enrolled in JSM Virtual  will have to remain in the program until the grading quarter ends.  If parents want to return their student to in-person classes - they should contact the principal.
